Cub Scout Day Camp 2008
June
9-13 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. |
|
Information for Parents
of Cub Scout Day Camp Scouts
Dear Parents of Cub Scouts
Attending Day Camp -
This letter is to confirm that
I am in receipt of your son’s application for the 2008 Cub Scout Day
Camp, June 9-13, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. I look forward to seeing him
there!
For those who are volunteering,
thank you for your time. We could not do this camp without you. PLEASE
make sure to attend the Orientation on Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m.
on the steps of Plant Hall at the University of Tampa. In addition,
please make sure to complete the Youth Protection Training online at
www.boyscouting.com.
I need to have the printed (or e-mailed) certificate for each volunteer
before you attend camp.
For youth protection, please go
to
www.boyscouting.com and click the training link on the right-hand
side of the screen. Under "online training central," click the red
"central port" link. You will see pictures of the various training
sessions. Please click on youth protection training, which is at the
top. You will need your council number (Gulf Ridge - Tampa, FL - 086)
and your membership ID, which is on your registration card. If you do
not have your membership ID, it will let you register for training
anyway. Once you register, it will send you an e-mail. After you
receive the e-mail, you will be able to complete the training. After
you complete the training, you should be able to print a certificate.
Please print the certificate and send it to me via USPS mail or e-mail.
Please note the following:
- T-shirts will be
distributed on Sunday, June 8 at the pick up circle in front of
Plant Hall by the fountain. These shirts are to be worn every
day of camp. Den assignments for camp will also be handed out that
day. Please come by between 3 - 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 8.
- Pick up and drop off will
be in the circle in front of Plant Hall next to the fountain. It
will run just like pick up/drop off runs at most schools. Please
have a sign with your child's name in the window for easy pick up in
the afternoons.
- Drop off is at 8:45 a.m.
Camp starts promptly at 9 a.m., so to ensure your scout is with his
den and at his first activity, please drop your scout off before 9
a.m.
- Pick up starts at 2 p.m.
and is by designated drivers only. If someone else is
picking up your child, you need to send a note with him that
morning.
- Late pick-up starts at
2:30 p.m., and there is a $10 late fee after 2:30 p.m.
- Please do not park
in the University of Tampa Museum's designated parking spaces. They
get very upset each year when parents utilize the few spaces they
have. If you park on campus, please use any legal parking space or
the parking garage on campus.
- Your son will be in a
group with others from his pack and den.
- Your son should wear his
bathing suit and camp t-shirt all day, in addition to shoes and
socks. Please send a towel and sunscreen (for self-application)
with him to camp every day. Please apply sunscreen to your child
before he gets to camp. Camp staff is not allowed to physically
apply sunscreen due to youth protection rules.
- Each day, please pack a
sack lunch for your son. We will have coolers with ice packs to
keep their lunches chilled, but please use your best judgment when
packing their lunches. It will be very hot in June.
- On Friday we will have
cheese pizza for lunch. Please send $2 with your son to camp on
Friday or before for pizza. If your son does not like pizza, please
send a sack lunch on Friday.
- We provide water and cups
all day throughout the camp. Gatorade is provided at lunch Monday
through Thursday.
- Lost and found can be
retrieved daily from the first aid tent. Any items left at the end
of the week will be kept for one week following camp and then
donated to a local charity. Please contact Valerie Kasper at
505-7491 to claim any items.
- All medications must be
checked in with camp medic.
- EMERGENCY PHONE AT
CAMP 505-7491 (mine) or 545-3498 (Melissa Wainright)
Please contact me if you have any
questions or concerns. I look forward to day camp with your son!
Sincerely,
Valerie Kasper

Father's Day Devil Rays Game
Just to give you an update regarding
the Rays baseball game on Father's Day (June 15th). This is Cub Scout day
for the Rays. We have reserved a block of 40 seats, of which about half are
already spoken for. The kids get to:
Pre-game on field parade
Kids run the bases post game
Carl Crawford jersey T-shirt to first 7500 kids 14 and under
Rays Scout patch to all cub scouts
If you want to go, bring your checkbook to the final Pack meeting tonight!
The cost is $30 per ticket, which is a good deal, as it includes a Rays hat,
and also a meal ticket. This counts as a summertime activity also!
I have included the flyer from the Rays.
John
We are setting up a group trip with the Rays on Cub Scout day at the Trop,
which will be on Fathers Day, June 15th. Please review the enclosed flyer.
Pack 21 has opted to go for the $30 seat package. All parents (Mom's too)
and siblings can also attend. This activity will count as one of the three
summertime activities to get the summertime activity badge.
Please send your check, payable to Garry Hasara, to:
Garry Hasara
16904 Melissa Ann Drive
Lutz, Florida 33558
Cost is $30 per person - that is $30 each for all adults and siblings too.
PLEASE NOTE: You MUST have your check to Garry by May 31, 2008. If your
check is late, then you will miss out and not be able to go. Send your
check sooner, rather than later. I will email out a list of who is going,
so that in the event your check is lost in the mail, the situation can be
fixed prior to giving the Rays our final # and paying them.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 813.244.9716.
Thanks
John

Cub Scout Camp - June 9th - 13th
You must fill out the forms and get them back before May 16th. For more information click on the link below
http://www.boyscouting.com/outdoor_cub_daycamp.php
The early bird registrations for the Cub Scout Day Camp at the University of
Tampa have gone in. This does not mean that you missed the boat! You can
still register for the camp, you will not get the $15 early bird discount.
Please go to WWW.Pack21.org for all the forms and information. The final
registration deadline is May 16, which means our camp coordinator must have
the form by May 15 - NO LATER. Also, this camp fills up on a first come
first served basis. If they fill all the slots prior to May 16, you will be
out of luck. SEND IN YOUR REGISTRATION FORMS!!!!
Summer camp will be June 9 through 13 and will be held at the
University of Tampa. I think the University of Tampa will work out well, as
some of the activities will be in air conditioning, as well as the fact they
have a pool, so the kids can go swimming.
Some key points:
1. The early bird registration fee is $65, and must be in our Pack Camp
Coordinators hands by Sunday, March 30, 2008. The Pack has to mail a roster
and a check to the Council on Monday. Our Pack Camp Coordinator is:
John McAllister
18103 Pecan Grove Place
Lutz, Florida 33548
CELL - 813.230.9100
Please do not take a chance, if you want the early bird discount, mail your
form to John ASAP. Do not wait until the last minute and take a chance with
the postal service. If the form is not delivered to the McAllister's on
time, you will have to pay the regular registration fee.
2. Regular registration is $80, and the due date for the Pack to turn that
in is May 16.
3. We need one parent to work as Staff for every five cub scouts we send.
The staff application is included. The staff application indicates Scout
training is required. While it would be preferable, it will not be
required. Also, while it would be preferable for one parent to work all
five days, it will be possible to split the week up between Mom and Dad, if
necessary. Volunteers should come evenly from all of the dens. A Wolf
parent should not have to be in charge of a Webelos den (example only, not
pointing fingers). It is very important that you volunteer if you can. If
we are short on volunteers, we will have to cut out some of the kids, and we
absolutely do not want to do that. If you do volunteer, please take note of
the discounted rate for the Cub Scouts whose parents are working the camp.
4. If you have any questions on how to fill out the various forms, please do
not let that hold you up with regards to sending them in. All we turn in to
council is our roster and a check. The forms are handled internally and
with the Camp director, so if there are any issues, we have plenty of time
to correct them.
5. Siblings may attend with their Staff Mom or Dad, but babies and toddlers
should not. If the sibling is entering the first grade next year, and is
going to become a cub scout, they can fully participate in the camp as a
Tiger Cub. The only requirement is that they register with the council. If
you fit the bill for this, please let me know and I can get you a Cub Scout
registration form. This works out really well for the kids who can do it,
as they will get a bunch of belt loops, etc at the very first Pack meeting
in September.
I apologize for only giving you a couple of days to fill out the forms and
get them in the mail in time for the early registration. I just grabbed the
ball on this on Tuesday.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me.
Thanks
John Hermes
